Rahul Gandhi Reflects Future of India
It raised heckles from certain vested quarters but the manner in which most in the country have reacted to the Ayodhaya’s verdict vindicates Rahul Gandhi’s assertion in Silchar that infrastructure, education and technology are of prime concern. Applause from the students of Assam’s premier education institutions to his remark is an indicator that he has once again struck the cords that youth in the country are more attuned to.
Picture this, as per media reports Ayodhya lacks hospitals, jobs for youths, better educational institutions. Instead of addressing the developmental needs the town got embroiled in a religious dispute. Much to the chagrin of the residents of Ayodhya the Ramjanam Bhoomi –Babri Masjid dispute captured the centre stage and development put to backburner. As a consequence, even basic infrastructures in the holy town are missing. Reports emerging from Ayodhya indicate large number of residents want to bury the age-old dispute and focus on development of the town, just what Rahul Gandhi had harp upon in Assam. It will be similar verdict throughout the country, more so among the youths.
Given the background Rahul Gandhi is rightly calling the youths to join politics. Over the years it has become his battle cry. Living true to his image while interacting with the students in Assam Rahul Gandhi, like elsewhere, urged that youths must join politics. He has often reiterated that fresh legs and fresh idea that youth will bring into politics will catalyze the development of the country. But what he has never said but surely imply is that the induction of youth will salvage country’s politics from decadent and narrow considerations. Indeed, he is leading by example. After all, he has made attempts to democratize Youth Congress and despite overt persuasions he has so far refrained from joining the government.

In the last Lok Sabha election, Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi had actively lobbied for party nomination for the youth so that they get valuable experience. Several of them won bringing in a new dynamism in the party affairs.
Repeating his style of work, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi dispatched a letter to the city unit Congress telling them to distribute tickets to the youth. Congress icon Rahul Gandhi and the city unit Congress leadership went out of its way to distribute tickets to the youth. For the first time, about six candidates who are not even 30 have been given mandate to fight the civic elections. Former NSUI leaders, who till now were regular participants in the agitations in the university, can hope to become corporators. The Congress has tried to bring in the change which may alter political equations in the city politics.
A look at Congress and BJP lists makes it clear that the former is ahead of its rival in giving tickets to youth and freshers. Congress has given tickets to 63 youngsters below 40 years of age. As many as 19 candidates are below 50 years and only 32 seniors above 50 years of age have been favoured with party tickets. Of the 114 candidates selected, about 75 have never fought civic body elections.

His visit to Aligarh on Saturday (August 20), to address the farmers agitating against the Mayawati government on the issue of Yamuna Expressway project and the compensation package offered, has scored a major political triumph of ever-growing acceptance of Rahul Gandhi and thus, a solid road-map for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh (UP).

He triumphed over all odds in the background of the state government not keen to permit him to hold a rally in Ambedkar Nagar, as being slated to be a stronghold of UP chief minister Mayawati but also the occasion being the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, for politically vested designs by Mayawati.
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi was not deterred with the state government’s diktats in regard to holding a rally here. He amply scored a point as the turnout in the rally being huge with about a lakh people in attendance.
